Chapter: London - Category: Food
This post features my favorite spots in London - repeating MY favorite spots. This city offers so many choices for a vast range of tastes and budgets, it would be an overstatement to say that these below are "The best spots in London". Not to mention that this would raise a lot of objections - totally understandable though.
I've visited London countless times.
I've been to some very inexpensive restaurants and to some luxurious ones too. The trick is to adjust your trip depending on your company and budget. London is indeed an expensive destination - as all Londoners know - but it is also a destination that offers wide variety of spots to fit your preferences, pocket and company.
These bullets below feature my personal favorites; the spots worth-visiting during a trip to London based on my value-for-money criteria. Keep in mind that the cost for food in London is much higher than that in Greece - and I took London prices into consideration as I made my list.
If you follow me on Instagram, then I guess you've already seen my FoodHop posts from all around the world - local food is a huge chapter of every place I visit and same goes for London.
1.Busaba Eathai
106-110 Wardour Street
If you didn't guess it by the name, then let me break it down for you; Busaba Eat-Thai is a Thai restaurant.
I had such an absolute love for Busaba and its ginger calamari I even wrote a separate post - which you can read here - so it didn't came as a surprise on this list. It's by far my favorite FoodHop in London.
I always go with the usual; Ginger Calamari, Pad Thai and Koh Samui juice. The one behind Selfridges in Oxford Street is my personal favorite - you can find yours in one of the 12 different spots around town.

2.Burger & Lobster
36-38 Dean Street, Soho
Now I'm pretty sure I had you at the 'burger' part and lost you at the 'lobster' part.
Don't be alarmed though - we won't go out of budget. 20£ are more than enough to buy you an incredible meal that'll delight all your senses at once. You have 3 options; either order a whole lobster, lobster sandwich or burger. Everything is accompanied with salad and french fries (but of course). Best part is that if there's two of you (like us) you can order, let's say a lobster and a sanwich 'to share' and enjoy your meal split in half.
You can accompany it either with beer, wine or whatever you prefer. I personally fell with their Rapsberry Lemonade.
While I'm writing these lines, I'm re-living these 30 moments of bliss I had while eating my lobster burger. So it was only natural that it immediately made it to nο. 2 of my top 5 list while I'm already preparing my 20£ bill for my next visit to the restaurant. If you find yourself around Soho, you should definitely check it out. Of course, you can find one at many different spots around town.
Keep in mind that that you'll have to wait an average of 2 and a half hours for a table - Just sayin'.
3.Kerbisher & Malt
164 Shepherds Bush Rd.
One of the things that pops to most people's mind when they're thinking of England is Fish & Chips. Yeah, not exactly our type of food as Greeks.
But if you feel like you should savor some local dishes - like I do - then, follow my lead. Till recently I hadn't found a Fish & Chips restaurant that would trigger the "WOW" effect I need. Till November that was, because during my visit for the World Travel Market, I had the chance to explore the city with the company of a real Londoner. Her exact words for the place were: "Maria, you're gonna taste the best fish & chips in town today". Thank you my dear friend Lucy, aka WanderLuce, for the great treat!
To be honest, I can't compare it to anything else, since I haven't visited many fish & chips restaurants in the city but I can tell you this; it's delicious, squeaky clean, with huge portions and amazing side sauces. If you happen to be downtown, you should give it a try and share your comments with me. Do not forget!
4.The Andover Arms
57 Aldensley Road London
My Londoner friend (WanderLuce) worked her miracle again and introduced me to this little treasure of a place. An original british pub located in Hammersmith where *surprise, surprise* I didn't taste half the beers on the catalogue but I did taste a delicious dish. But, you're right to say that a proper pub is worth when you can taste a fine brew accompanied with a tasty meal, so let me just mention that this one is #9 of Trip Advisor's best restaurants in London.
I got you covered with the meal part - Give me your lights on the beer!
5.Electric Diner
191 Portobello Road
Saturday night in London means only one thing for me; Portobello Road and Vintage Market. You know me, I'm a good-old vintage lover. A visit to a Portobello Road restaurant in Notting Hill would be a risky thing to do on a Saturday night though.
So I came back on Sunday morning.
The Electric Diner is located next to the Electric Cinema - one of the oldest movie theatres in London - on the ground floor of Electric House to be specific. That was where I enjoyed my Sunday breakfast some time ago.
I've been to this restaurant 3 times - all of them at night. My Londoner friends once again, suggested I should visit it in the morning and oh, look what happened. I fell in love with it. How couldn't I? Look at these eggs and the delicious Sauce Hollandaise. Notice that good-old plate, too?-
The FoodHop List for London is endless.
And it's gonna be updated soon.
In the meantime, what's your favorite spot in the city?
