Sure, I went to Beijing!
I even had Peking duck!
And of course now you’ll ask me where; at the open Food Market, or at some restaurant? It’s the second, because when it comes to food, I don’t like to take risks. I am sure I’m missing out on many things, but I am making amends.
I have already started, in fact!
Taste the World is probably my only chance to learn the innermost secrets of the serving counter at the Open Food Market and become more food savvy. I want to taste all sorts of delicacies laid out on the counter, served by hands in white or blue gloves.
And with an intense flashback, I started reminiscing on all the goodies I have tasted around the world. Like that delicious Peking duck, which I had been craving so, and I eventually tried last November. I had reserved it for the end of my trip, after my Hutong Tour around the Forbidden City, my gazing at the Forbidden City’s yellow, and my tasting of dumplings and Cantonese soup.
Made in China is a wonderful restaurant on the ground floor of the Hyatt Hotel in Beijing. You arrange a date with your Duck at least 24 hours in advance, and when you get there, she’s already there expecting you. It has been roasted and prepared just for you. She will be served in pieces, first to be tasted with sugar on your plate and then wrapped up in hot pancakes. One duck for three, however, is not enough, so make the necessary arrangements.
And before you leave, go and choose the fondue of your preference. Served in a black teapot, since you are in China, after all, and you have to adapt to the customs, and since it’s not tea-time yet…
