May is the perfect month to do some organizing – starting off with my closet. Apart from cleaning and organizing, it is time to do some de-cluttering too, making room for new pieces and trends that have won my heart this year.
These will be the key-pieces of my summer wardrobe, the holy grail of my summer style which I will need to protect from every girl's worst nightmare; sunscreen staining. If only there was an effective solution to keep my favorite pieces from getting stained while I'm at the beach or strolling around under the hot sun.
Until I find an effective product, I'll share my summer essentials list.
It is exciting to be inspired by various parts of the world when indulging into a current trend. I like to think of it like my summer wardrobe has the signature of various airports around the world. From the floral bikinis inspired by the Singapore Gardens to the Mumbai-style Indian Crop Tops, these are some of my favorite Summer Key Pieces.
PRINTED SWIMWEAR
Inspired by Singapore Gardens
Without any doubt, this is my most favorite piece - the green pattern reminds me of the Singapore Gardens I recently visited. One piece swimwear with open backs, bikinis and 60's style high-waisted bottoms, this is the high trend of my closet and I can't wait to travel the world wearing one of these – from the Greek islands to Miami and the Bahamas!
PERUVIAN PONCHO
Inspired by Cusco Women
Peru is one on my travel bucket list for many years now – it is a dream destination for me and one of the reasons why I love the peruvian prints and the ponchos so much, since I was a little girl. The Cusco Style is a huge trend for a while now and I will happily renew my peruvian-printed basics for this year's must-have's: pink and grey hues and airy, flowy materials ideal for your summer strolls in one of the Greek islands.
SPANISH ESPADRILLES
Inspired by La Barceloneta
The number one summer essential, espadrilles are more than necessary: they are cute-looking, girly and they add the summer vibe in every outfit. I dream of walking around in a pair of espadrilles in Barceloneta with a gelato in my hand and the Spanish breeze in my hair. Flats or flatforms, plain or lace-up, floral or monochrome – they are my super-essential piece for this summer!
PASTEL KIMONO
Inspired by Kyoto's Blooming Gardens
I loved Japan from my very first visit in this wonderful country; not only for its amazing culture, spirit, kindness and incredible manners of its people but for that feeling of superiority it inspired me. If there is one trip I look forward to, besides travelling to Peru, it is a visit to Kyoto.
I dream of strolling around in the blooming gardens in a pastel kimono and that is reason enough for me to prepare by filling my closet with all kinds of kimonos: the shorter version to wear over my swimsuit at the beach and an ankle-length kimono for a chic over-the-jeans ensemble.
CALIFORNIAN SHORTS
Inspired by Abbot Kinney Blvd
California takes pride for its unique beach style featuring ripped shorts and bikinis. After every trip in California, I adopt one of the Orange County latest trends and adjust it to my style so I can wear it when I'm back in Greece. Ripped jeans and Jean shorts are two of the hottest trends exuding the trademark youthfulness and laid-back style of California.
INDIAN CROP TOPS
Inspired by Mumbai Vibes
I have a huge thing for Crop Tops – paired with high waisted jeans, palazzo pants or skirts. This year, I love Indian Style Tops embroidered with colorful motifs inspired by the colorful culture and the signature extravaganza of India. My go-to style this summer will be a crop top paired with wide leg pants for an airy, girly style I will be wearing until the beginning of Fall.
This year, I will protect my beloved summer pieces from sunscreen stains and you should do so too! Keep all the good memories from your summer vacations – not the stains on your summer wardrobe.
