Hard work, tough timetables, high expectations of adjustability and flexibility and moments of loneliness. Although they may differ from one person to another, depending on their personality, it is for granted that you’ll encounter a few of them in your life up in the air. At the end of the day though, adjustability to this certain lifestyle will help you overcome everything.
The sacrifices you’ll have to make with your very first “Welcome aboard”. They may not be as clear at the beginning. In the course of your life as a flight attendant though, you’ll know exactly what I mean – you’ll find yourself trying to solve the same dilemma; whether this job is worth making such sacrifices. If you intend to follow your dream and become an attendant or you are already in aviation, read along to discover some of the biggest sacrifices you’ll have to make.
PART TWO; THE SACRIFICES
Friends - Relationships - Family
But I'll tell you this; I may be no therapist or couples’ counselor but I strongly advise you to signify how much this work means to you, from the beginning if possible. Believe in your job, let show that it is a part of your life and let your significant other be a part of it, one step at a time.
Having in mind the current working conditions, combining work with having a family is extremely difficult. What I mean is that, I'm not sure that it is worth it choosing such a demanding profession and leaving your family behind. On the other side, there are great examples of couples that made it. If you want a family but don't want to leave your job just yet, then think twice; you'll be missing crucial moments on the way that won't be coming back.
For that reason, my advice would be to start your career at an early age to fully enjoy it without having any of the dilemmas above. And by the time you wish to have a family, you'll see it as a beautiful conclusion to a beautiful life. As for the family you leave behind, meaning your parents, siblings and relatives, I do not consider it to be a sacrifice. It is more of a bliss, rather than sacrifice. It will come a time they'll realize it too. My mother always tells me she travels through my eyes to the places I visit – even though she was the one telling me once that I was making a huge sacrifice leaving them behind.
